Administrative & Regulatory Issues
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation is the regulatory and licensing entity for professional engineers in Illinois. This page is devoted to keeping you up to date on any changes made by IDFPR that impact your PE license and ISPE's efforts to protect your profession from non-legislative challenges.

PE Renewal

All PE’s must earn 30 professional development hours within the current 2-year renewal period.  One Professional Development Hour equals 50 minutes of presentation/classroom time. The hours must be earned during the renewal period (there are no “carry over” hours from one renewal period to the next).

Engineers with a PE license must have 30 Professional Development Hours by Nov. 30 of odd numbered years to renew their licenses.  Engineers with SE licenses must have 30 Professional Development Hours by Nov. 30 of even numbered years to renew their licenses.

Non-Legislative Challenges
In addition to taking positions on legislative issues, ISPE also works to protect its members on Administrative & Regulatory Issues that impact both the PE license and professional engineering in Illinois.  These include IDFPR rulings on projects requiring a PE and companies pushing the boundaries to avoid using licensed PEs.  As these issues arise, ISPE's efforts on your behalf will be posted here.
