Nelson, PE, was recently named Regional Vice President of Hanson Professional Services’s Chicago regional office. Mr. Nelson holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois. He has 23 years of experience in the engineering industry, serving in leadership capacities such as project manager and client liaison for roadway and tollway clients. In addition, he has served for 15 years as the village engineer in Hillside, IL. He has been a member of ISPE since he began his engineering education at the U of I in 1984.
Bradley O. Holmbert, PE, , Inc. was recently named Regional Manager of Baxter & Woodman’s Rockford office. Mr. Holmberg earned a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering from the University of Illinois. He has more than 30 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, groundwater management, and construction throughout the United States and in several foreign countries. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois, and has been a member of ISPE for 19 years.
Thomas A. Brecheisen was awarded the 2007 Steinman Fellowship from NSPE, worth $10,000 towards his pursuit of a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, Chicago. The NSPE Educational Foundation created the Steinman Fellowship to support an NSPE student member entering graduate school. Mr. Brecheisen is the first NSPE scholarship winner from Illinois, and has been an ISPE member since 2005.
The following ISPE members were inducted to the Order of the Engineer at the ISPE Annual Convention on July 14, 2007: Richard Baumann, PE Ralph Hilmes, PE Mohammed Quraishi, PE James Schlichting, PE Phil Matone, PE Daniel Grecco, PE Verne Rezabek, PE Thomas Miller, PE Congratulations on this honor, and thank you for your service to the profession. Philip M. Corlew, P.E., L.S. was appointed to the Illinois State Board of Professional Engineers this past March to fill an empty term which expires on May 1, 2008. The Board of Professional Engineers reports to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and is charged with reviewing education and experience qualifications of PE applicants, conducting hearings regarding disciplinary actions and advising the director of IDFPR on matters related to professional competence and conduct. Corlew has been a member of ISPE since 1963, and was enrolled as a Fellow in the National Academy of Forensic Engineers in 2006. He currently maintains a practice in Edwardsville, IL.
John Harms, P.E., S.E. was recently named chairman of the Illinois Structural Engineering Board. The ISEB consists of five licensed structural engineers and one public member and is charged by IDFPR with reviewing licensing qualifications, evaluating the curriculum for engineering programs and assisting with disciplinary hearings. As chairman, Harms will also serve as a representative on the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. He joined ISPE in 1982, and is currently a senior Vice President with Hanson Professional Services, Inc. in Springfield, IL.
Sergio “Satch” Pecori, P.E., is a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2007 Award in the Lake Michigan Area program. Mr. Pecori is president and CEO of Hanson Professional Services, Inc. in Springfield, IL. According to Ernst & Young, the awards program was designed to recognize outstanding entrepreneurs on a regional, national and global level who are building and leading dynamic, growing businesses. Awards are given to entrepreneurs who have demonstrated excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. John Mick has joined Bloom Consultants, LLC as Chicago Branch Manager. Mr. Mick brings over 30 years of experience in infrastructure improvements, with emphasis being on transportation planning and design projects. Aspects of his work include planning for sites, corridors and communities, as well as the design of residential streets, highways, and tollways. He has also served on infrastructure improvement projects as Municipal Engineer and Program Manager. Mr. Mick has lectured nationally on transportation planning, and has conducted several traffic impact and safety studies across the Midwest. His specialized skills include cost analysis, cost estimating, CIP development, and the pursuit and management of funding sources. Last year Mr. Mick was awarded the 2006 Illinois Award, which is the Illinois Society of Professional Engineer’s highest award given to an engineer who has made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession, public welfare, and /or humankind. Bloom Consultants has been providing services to both public and private clients since 1998 and offer highway and roadway design, bridge design, geotechnical and environmental engineering, building design, construction engineering , as well as other infrastructure-related services.
