YOUNG ENGINEER OF THE YEAR AWARD Reasons to Join | Accomplishments | Governance
This award recognizes young NSPE members who have made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession and their communities during the early years of their careers. The ISPE Young Engineer selected will be considered for nomination to NSPE for the NSPE Young Engineer of the Year Award. Criteria/Method of Selection: Any licensed professional engineer (PE or EI) who is a NSPE member in good standing, and who is 34 years of age or younger as of January 1 on the year preceding the NSPE award year is eligible for nomination. Nominations either are to be submitted by an ISPE chapter or must contain an endorsement from an ISPE chapter. Only one submission per chapter will be accepted by ISPE. ISPE uses only the nomination criteria and format prescribed by NSPE. Other forms of submission will not be considered by the ISPE Honors and Awards Committee. The prescribed format is available by going to http://www.nspe.org/resources/documents/ye/youngengineeroftheyear.doc. The ISPE Honors and Awards Committee makes the selection of the recipient based on the following criteria: Educational and Collegiate Achievements 12% Professional Society Activities 15 % Technical Society Activities 12% Civic and Humanitarian Activities 12% Continuing Competence 12% Engineering Achievements 25% Professional Experience 12% Total 100%
ISPE Nomination Forma: Nominations
must be made on the NSPE Nomination Form which can be found at http://www.nspe.org/resources/documents/ye/youngengineeroftheyear.doc Using the NSPE Nomination Checklist (also found at http://www.nspe.org/resources/documents/ye/youngengineeroftheyear.doc ), attach the following as the basis for nomination of the candidate, using a separate page for each lettered section. A) Educational and Collegiate Achievements Include undergraduate and advanced degrees (give date, major, institution, and GPA for each), honorary societies (give society and office held), scholastic awards, organizations (give name of organization and office held), and other activities) B) Professional Society Activities (national, state and chapter levels) List offices held, committee assignments, and awards at each level C) Technical Society
Activities D) Civic and Humanitarian Activities List offices held and committee assignments E) Continuing Competence List graduate studies (give course and date), short courses and seminars, and papers published (give article, journal, and date) F) Engineering Achievements Include current position (title, company, or institution), responsibilities (number of subordinates, annual budget), accountability (position, function, nature of challenge), patents applied for and awards G) Professional Experience Include dates of employment, employer/location, description of duties H) Press Statement 500-word statement outlining the candidate's achievements, which is suitable to be used for a press release The form must be signed and dated by the candidate. Additional copies and photographs are not required for the ISPE Honor Awards Committee, but will be required if the nominee is selected for forwarding to NSPE.
