What is a professional engineer?
A century ago, anyone could work as an engineer without proof of competency. In order to protect the public health, safety, and welfare, the first engineering licensure law was enacted in 1907 in Wyoming. Now every state regulates the practice of engineering to ensure public safety by granting only Professional Engineers (PEs) the authority to sign and seal engineering plans and offer their services to the public.

You worked hard for it. Maintain your PE license.

All licensed Professional Engineers are required to obtain 30 Professional Development Hours (PDH) in each renewal period. Click the link to view more information about renewal requirements, how to report PDHs and which activities qualify.

Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
On Friday Aug. 6, Gov. Pritzker signed SB 1079 into law making it Public Act 102-0308. The bill removes the PDH requirement for sexual harassment prevention training (SHPT), but still requires licensed personnel to show proof of SHPT when they renew their license. ISPE offers a 1-hour training course to meet the SHPT requirement for license renewal. Click the link to view more information and purchase the course.
