Leadership

ISPE is governed by an Executive Committee and Board of Directors.  The Board of Directors includes members of the Executive Committee and Chapter Representatives from each chapter.  ISPE’s Executive Director, Kim Robinson, CAE, oversees the ISPE staff and assists the Executive Committee and Board in fulfilling their duties to the membership.  ISPE Legislative Director Linda Baker, Ph.D, represents Illinois Engineers before the Illinois General Assembly and the Executive Administration.

Committees

ISPE encourages membership engagement through state and local chapter committees. Below is a listing of current ISPE committees and their chairs.  While some committees are outlined by ISPE Bylaws, most committees are open to the membership as a whole.  Interested in becoming involved with an ISPE committee?  Click here to email ISPE staff.

Executive Committee
The Executive Committee works with the Board of Directors to handle matters related to governance and fulfill responsibilities to members. They ensure implementation of policies enacted by the Board with duties outlined by the ISPE Bylaws.

Membership Committee
The Membership Committee is responsible for identifying programs and services that increase the value of ISPE membership. They also assist in member recruitment and promoting professional engineering to individuals interested in STEM fields.

Education Committee
The Education Committee assists in identifying topics and recruiting speakers for educational events, conferences, and bootcamp. Members additionally assist the State Society in determining if topics meet the standards for continuing professional education.

Government Affairs Committee
The Government Affairs Committee evaluates legislation introduced in the Illinois legislature, determines its impact on the engineering profession and suggests positions to be taken by the Society. The committee also assists in drafting bills and amendments when necessary.

Active participation in a committee of a professional organization such as ISPE qualifies for up to 2 PDHs per committee per renewal period. PEs may claim a maximum of 8 PDHs for organization involvement per renewal period.

Nominating & Awards Committee
The Nominating & Awards Committee is responsible for identifying and recruiting individuals to serve on the Executive Committee. Additionally, the committee evaluates nominations for the various awards that ISPE grants on an annual basis.

Committee for Pursuing Innovation and Adapting to Change

While some aspects of engineering are absolute, new technologies, materials and techniques are always on the horizon. ISPE seeks to provide programming and content that keeps members up to date on the latest advances in the field of engineering.

Committee for Connecting Professional Engineers
Earning PDHs keeps everyone licensed and provides a way to keep your knowledge current, but sometimes the best education comes with talking to fellow engineers outside of the office. Through chapter meetings and other social events, ISPE builds a network of members who are highly engaged and can provide support to one another.

Committee for Developing the Pipeline
As our PE network grows, we continue to focus on developing the next generation. In addition to IEI’s MATHCOUNTS competition, our Engineer in the Classroom efforts, and the budding ISPE ENGage Poster Contest for engineering students, ISPE works to develop social events and programs that engage and encourage younger engineers to join the profession and become involved in ISPE.

Committee for Promoting Licensure
Portions of the general public don't know what a PE is - or what they do. ISPE engages in efforts to grow awareness of the profession in order to help develop the pipeline. Still, many young engineers leave the state to work elsewhere upon graduation. With the vital assistance of our volunteers, ISPE works with employers to promote programs that make being a PE in Illinois more attractive to recent graduates.
