Honorary Membership may be granted, in accordance with the ISPE Bylaws, to a person who either has attained eminence in engineering or the related sciences or has rendered outstanding service to the engineering profession. Because of the high honor bestowed by this award, it will usually be made in a special public ceremony or during the ISPE Annual Conference. The Order of the Engineer was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer. The Order is not a membership organization; there are never any meetings to attend or dues to pay. Instead, the Order fosters a unity of purpose and the honoring of one’s pledge lifelong. The Engineer’s Ring in the United States is a stainless steel ring, worn on the fifth finger of the working hand by engineers who have accepted the Obligation of an Engineer in a Ring Ceremony. NSPE Fellows
The NSPE Fellow Program is a national program intended to recognize deserving professional engineers who have demonstrated long term professional service at the chapter, state and national levels of NSPE. The NSPE Board of Directors established the Fellow recognition program to honor those licensed members who have demonstrated exemplary service to the profession, the Society, and the community. ISPE offers a state-level award recognizing public and private entities that make exemplary use of the Qualifications-Based Selection process at the federal, state, and local levels. QBS Award winners serve as examples of how well the QBS process works, and they help NSPE/ISPE promote the practice of QBS in jurisdictions that do not use, or underuse, QBS to procure engineering services. All award winners are recognized at the ISPE Annual Conference. All nominees will be considered for nomination for the national-level NSPE/ACEC award.
