​Regulation & Enforcement

​The Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation is responsible for regulating licensed professionals and firms in the state. Professional Engineering professions licensed by the IDFPR include PEs, Engineer Interns (EIs) and Design Firms. Design Code Manual

The code of professional conduct and responsibility for professional engineers in Illinois is outlined by the Professional Engineering Practice Act of 1989 (225 ILCS 325). The statute was enacted by the Illinois General Assembly in the interest of public health and safety to regulate the practice of engineering in the State of Illinois.

​The Illinois Administrative Code is a compilation of the rules and regulations created by the Illinois General Assembly and updated by the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules. The code states the rules of the profession and history of the rules including when the rule was originally filed and its effective date, as well as the dates and history of amendments or repeals.
